Bears Defeat Seahawks 34-17 Behind Simmons Debut and Williams

Chicago improved to 6-2 on the season as a dominant defensive performance halted Seattle's struggles.

The Chicago Bears secured a decisive 34-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, propelled by a stellar defensive debut from newly acquired lineman Jeffery Simmons and an efficient performance from quarterback Caleb Williams. The win lifted the Bears to a 6-2 record on the season while handing the defending champion Seahawks their third loss in four games.

Simmons made an immediate impact for Chicago after being acquired last week from Tennessee in a trade involving two first-round picks. He recorded a sack on the opening drive, finished with six tackles, three pressures, and a pass defensed, earning high praise from head coach Ben Johnson, who described his presence on the field as profound.

Caleb Williams navigated one of the NFL's toughest defenses with exceptional poise, completing 71 percent of his passes for 247 yards without committing any turnovers or taking more than a single sack. Williams' steady leadership helped set up three short touchdown runs by running back D'Andre Swift, which ultimately put the game out of reach.

Seattle struggled to find momentum for much of the contest, managing just 81 rushing yards despite recently trading for three-time All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson. Quarterback Sam Darnold went 17 of 34 for 188 yards and two touchdowns, but a costly fourth-quarter interception sealed the visitors' fate.

The Seahawks briefly threatened a comeback in the final period. After DeMarcus Lawrence forced a fumble by Chicago tight end Colston Loveland, Darnold capitalized on the short field by connecting with Cooper Kupp for a seven-yard touchdown. Tory Horton successfully executed a toe-tap two-point conversion in the back of the end zone, narrowing Chicago's lead to 20-17.

That score marked Cooper Kupp's second touchdown of the season and his first since Week 3 against the Washington Commanders. However, any hopes of a Seattle rally were quickly dashed as the Bears responded with another touchdown drive and put the game away following Darnold's late interception.

With the victory, Chicago shifts its focus toward hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Soldier Field on Sunday night. Meanwhile, the Seahawks find themselves looking upward in the NFC playoff standings, needing a swift turnaround in their ground game to avoid further ground in a competitive conference.
