Cooper Kupp Logs Quiet Outing in Seahawks' Week 7 Win Over Chiefs

While teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba made historic plays on offense, veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp recorded two catches for 20 yards.

The Seattle Seahawks secured a dominant 20-3 victory over the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night at Lumen Field, moving to 4-3 on the season. During the contest, veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp experienced a relatively quiet outing, catching both of his targets for 20 yards.

Kupp saw sparse usage as teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a stellar first half, propelling the Seahawks offense. As Seattle built a lead, the team transitioned to a run-heavy approach to close out the game. Despite his modest statistics in Week 7, Kupp has accumulated 16 receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown across six games this season.

Beyond his on-field performance, Kupp's value to the Seattle franchise extends into strategic leadership. Head coach Mike Macdonald revealed that the veteran wide receiver has been heavily involved in discussions with offensive coordinator Brian Fleury and passing game coordinator Jake Peetz to help diagnose and fix offensive inefficiencies. Macdonald noted that Kupp's extensive football knowledge and film study make him a tremendous asset to the team.

"It wasn't just like one conversation. There were a lot of conversations over the last few days," Macdonald told the media regarding Kupp's contributions. "Coop's a part of that. Coop's a tremendous asset for us. We want all those guys to feel like we're all part of the solution and how we're going to move forward. So, Coop's been great."

While Kupp may no longer put up the explosive numbers he did during his historic 2021 campaign with the Los Angeles Rams, where he tallied 1,947 receiving yards, his football IQ and understanding of the personnel are viewed as priceless by the coaching staff. Observers have noted that his articulate communication and collaborative approach suggest a potential future in coaching once his playing days conclude.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks' passing attack was largely anchored by Smith-Njigba, who turned in a historic performance against the Chiefs. Smith-Njigba recorded nine receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown, alongside two carries for 13 yards, cementing his status as the first player in the Super Bowl Era to record at least 850 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in his team's first seven games.

Looking ahead to Week 8, the Seahawks face potential roster adjustments. Fellow wide receiver Rashid Shaheed left Sunday's game with a knee injury following a collision in the end zone. If Shaheed misses extended time, Kupp could see an expanded role and enter fantasy football FLEX discussions ahead of Seattle's upcoming matchup against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
