The BC Lions eliminated the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders from the postseason with a 33-26 victory in the West Division semi-final. Playing at BC Place, the Lions overcame a 17-3 deficit in the middle of the second quarter to secure the win and punch their ticket to the next round of the playoffs.

BC quarterback Nathan Rourke orchestrated the comeback performance, completing 21 of 32 passes for 366 yards and two touchdowns. Both scoring strikes went to Jevon Cottoy, including a crucial 70-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter that tied the game at 20-20. Kicker Sean Whyte contributed four field goals, with his longest coming from 48 yards out, to help seal the victory.

For the Roughriders, quarterback Trevor Harris recorded 255 passing yards and one interception. Backup quarterback Tommy Stevens scored a four-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, while kicker Brett Lauther kept Saskatchewan competitive by successfully converting six field goals, including two from 55 yards away.

Both teams finished the regular season with identical 10-8 records, but the Lions earned the right to host the playoff matchup after winning their regular-season series 2-1. Despite the playoff loss, Saskatchewan entered the postseason aiming to defend their championship title from the previous year, having previously eliminated BC in both the 2024 and 2025 playoffs.

Ahead of the matchup, player perspectives on championship experience differed between the two squads. BC linebacker Darnell Sankey argued that his team's lack of prior Grey Cup rings made them "even more deadly" due to an intense hunger to win. Conversely, Saskatchewan linebacker Jameer Thurman dismissed the idea that past success diminished his team's drive, stating that everyone shares the same desire to chase another championship ring.

Lions head coach Corey Mace emphasized that his squad's mindset remained strictly focused on the current campaign rather than past accolades. With the victory secured, the Lions will now travel to Edmonton to face the Elks in the West Division final on November 7.
