The Winnipeg Blue Bombers advanced to the Canadian Football League East Division final by defeating the Toronto Argonauts 25-22 on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. Quarterback Dru Brown connected with Nick Demski for a 23-yard touchdown pass with just 44 seconds remaining, capping a decisive late-game drive that silenced a crowd of 21,786 spectators.

Trailing late in the fourth quarter, Winnipeg benefited from a crucial turnover when Thiadric Hansen recovered a fumble by Janarion Grant on a punt return. Following the touchdown, Brown successfully hit Demski again for a two-point conversion to solidify the lead. The victory propels the visiting squad forward as a playoff crossover team, setting up a matchup against the Montreal Alouettes next weekend.

Winnipeg played the semifinal without starting quarterback Zach Collaros, who was sidelined due to a rib injury. Head coach Mike O'Shea declined to speculate on whether Collaros would be available for the upcoming East Final, giving his veteran players time to heal. Brown finished the afternoon completing 18 of 30 passes for 206 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

The Argonauts faced injury setbacks of their own when starting quarterback Chad Kelly departed with an apparent right shoulder injury with just over nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Kelly had completed 18 of 30 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown before exiting. Backup Nick Arbuckle entered the game, completing two of six passes for 25 yards.

Toronto's defense created significant opportunities by forcing four turnovers, including two interceptions and two fumbles. However, the offense struggled to find the end zone consistently, relying on six field goals from Lirim Hajrullahu. Tyler Kahmann scored Toronto's lone offensive touchdown of the game on a 20-yard reception in the first quarter.

Kahmann enters the postseason following a standout campaign in which he was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie. The rookie receiver led all first-year players with 77 receptions, 1,092 yards, and eight touchdowns during the regular season, earning 30 of 52 first-place votes from the Football Reporters of Canada.

Winnipeg now faces historical odds as the 14th crossover team from the West since the format was adopted in 1996. Previous crossover teams hold a combined 6-8 record in East playoff matchups, and none have managed to reach the Grey Cup final. The Blue Bombers will look to break that trend when they travel to Montreal to play the Alouettes.
