Anika Rashaun, Reality TV Star and Matchmaker, Dies at 34
The former MTV cast member passed away following a year-long battle with stage four breast cancer.
Anika Rashaun, widely recognized for her appearances on MTV's reality franchise including "The Real World: Seattle: Bad Blood" and "The Challenge," has died at the age of 34. Her passing occurred on October 1, following a battle with stage four breast cancer that lasted more than a year.
News of her death circulated broadly after tributes were shared online by close friends and former castmates. Tiara Ramos, a close friend of Rashaun, published a heartfelt Substack post reflecting on the devastating loss and detailing the timeline of the illness. Ramos noted that the diagnosis last summer came as a complete shock to those around her, emphasizing that despite a family history of breast cancer, Rashaun was not previously identified as high-risk by medical professionals.
Rashaun first captured television audiences in 2016 when she appeared on "The Real World: Seattle: Bad Blood" at the age of 24, where her season featured her ex-boyfriend Will Groomes. The following year, she returned to MTV screens to compete on "The Challenge: Invasion of the Champions," though she was eliminated early in the third episode.
Following her time in reality television, Rashaun shifted her focus toward entrepreneurship and personal branding. She established a career as a professional matchmaker and dating coach, creating her own lifestyle, relationship, and entertainment brand named ASKANIKA, alongside selling an ebook focused on modern relationships.
In her personal life, Rashaun recently celebrated major milestones. She married her husband, Kyle, in San Marcos, California, on Valentine's Day. Reflecting on the ceremony on social media shortly afterward, she described the celebration as a dream filled with the best moments, noting that they could not have imagined a more perfect day.
Tributes from friends and former co-stars flooded social media platforms around what would have been her 35th birthday. Theo King-Bradley, who starred alongside Rashaun on "The Real World," shared his grief on Instagram, stating that he had been deeply saddened since hearing the news and cherished the memories and conversations they shared.
Friends remembered Rashaun for her vibrant personality, loyalty, and ambition. Ramos highlighted her adventurous spirit, recalling how she moved to Thailand independently, went skydiving on a first date, and pursued business ventures from a very young age. Loved ones expressed heartbreak over her untimely passing and the abrupt end to her journey.
