Yaxel Lendeborg Scores 37 Points in Warriors' Win Over Clippers
The rookie forward recorded the highest scoring night for a Golden State first-year player since Stephen Curry's rookie season.
Golden State Warriors rookie forward Yaxel Lendeborg delivered a stellar performance on Sunday, scoring 37 points to lead his team to a 124-112 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers. Playing without starters Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who were resting on the first night of a back-to-back, Lendeborg shot 13-of-19 from the field, made six 3-pointers, and contributed six assists.
His scoring output marked the highest single-game total by a Warriors rookie since Stephen Curry put up 42 points in April 2010. Through his first seven NBA games, Lendeborg has averaged 22.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per contest.
Late in the game, Lendeborg acknowledged that he gave in to peer pressure while chasing the 40-point milestone. He explained that teammates De'Anthony Melton and Will Richard informed him he was three points shy of the mark during the final minutes. Lendeborg subsequently attempted three difficult 3-pointers and missed all of them, allowing Los Angeles to briefly cut the deficit to eight points before head coach Steve Kerr called a timeout and substituted him out.
Following the performance, sports media personality Bill Simmons endorsed the rookie as an early-season All-Star candidate. Simmons praised Lendeborg's impact, stating that the forward has successfully energized the team during a four-game winning streak that followed an 0-3 start to the season.
Lendeborg's path to the NBA includes stops at Arizona Western College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, prior to winning a national championship with Michigan and being selected 11th overall by Golden State in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Coach Steve Kerr noted that while the pace of the NBA remains fast for the young player, his natural talent continues to produce strong results. The Warriors will look to continue their momentum as Lendeborg establishes a significant role alongside the team's veteran core.
