Veteran Filmmaker KC Bokadia Discusses Industry Shifts and Actor Professionalism

Veteran filmmaker KC Bokadia, who has spent over five decades in the film industry, recently shared his observations on the evolving nature of movie production and the changing professional conduct of actors. In a recent interview, Bokadia highlighted a significant shift in how film sets operate, noting that the collaborative spirit of the past has been replaced by a more isolated environment where stars often retreat to vanity vans between takes.

A central theme of Bokadia's commentary involved the rising costs associated with film production, specifically regarding the demands for multiple vanity vans and additional personal staff. He expressed concern that these expenses place an undue burden on producers. Bokadia emphasized that filmmaking is a business that requires mutual respect and financial mindfulness from all stakeholders, warning that if producers are not supported, the industry's long-term sustainability could be at risk.

In contrast to current trends, Bokadia praised the professionalism of industry icons such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Rajinikanth. He noted that these actors historically refrained from asking producers to cover the costs of their personal staff. According to Bokadia, these stars maintained a level of consideration for the financial health of the projects they were involved in, a trait he hopes will be mirrored by today's generation of performers.

Reflecting on the practical attitudes of actors from previous eras, Bokadia shared an anecdote about Jackie Shroff. During a shoot in Chennai, Shroff was offered a double room rather than a suite, yet he remained entirely unbothered by the arrangement. Bokadia cited this as an example of the accommodating and grounded nature that once defined the working relationships between stars and their producers.

Beyond production logistics, Bokadia also offered a somber reflection on the later years of the legendary actor Rajesh Khanna. He described the challenges Khanna faced as his career slowed and his films struggled at the box office. Bokadia recalled Khanna expressing deep regret for having neglected his relationships with producers during his peak years, noting that the actor felt the isolation that followed as professional opportunities dwindled.

Despite these professional hardships, Bokadia remembered Khanna as a warm and hospitable individual who enjoyed cooking and hosting. The two collaborated on several projects, including 'Main Tera Dushman' and 'Pyaar Zindagi Hai.' Bokadia attributed the rise and fall of stardom to the unpredictable nature of the industry and the role of fate, while maintaining that the core of the business relies on the health of the producer-actor relationship.
