Vélez Sarsfield and San Lorenzo Draw 2-2 in Torneo Clausura Clash

Vélez Sarsfield, managed by Guillermo Barros Schelotto, was held to a 2-2 draw by San Lorenzo during the penultimate regular round of the Torneo Clausura at the José Amalfitani stadium. The match featured the participation of Claudio Baeza as a starter for the home side, while Diego Valdés entered the game in the final minutes of the second half.

The home team started the match aggressively and took the lead in the 21st minute. Matías Pellegrini sent a precise cross that allowed Juan Policella to score the opening goal. Just minutes later, in the 24th minute, Pellegrini capitalized on the situation by getting past the visiting goalkeeper to extend the lead to 2-0.

Despite dominating the early stages, Vélez allowed San Lorenzo back into the match right before halftime. In the 45th minute, Rodrigo Auzmendi received the ball and delivered a pass to Alexis Cuello, who scored a crucial goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the break.

Early in the second half, Vélez thought they had restored their two-goal cushion when Ronaldo Martínez found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. However, the refereeing crew disallowed the goal following a VAR review due to a prior foul.

San Lorenzo capitalized on the overturned goal and increased their offensive pressure. In the 81st minute, Rodrigo Auzmendi struck again, scoring the equalizer to bring the score to 2-2 and seal the final result.

With this draw, Vélez remains in second place in the standings with 28 points. Meanwhile, San Lorenzo sits in ninth place with 19 points, remaining out of the playoff positions solely on goal difference.

Looking ahead to the final matchday of the regular season, Vélez will travel to face Unión on Sunday, November 8, at 6:00 PM. On the same day and at the same hour, San Lorenzo will host Platense at their home ground.
