Sporting Cristal secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Alianza Lima during the 14th round of the 2026 Liga 1 Torneo Clausura at the Alberto Gallardo Stadium. The dramatic win propelled the celestial squad to the summit of the standings, though the match featured intense back-and-forth action, defensive errors, and high tension on and off the pitch.

The match began at a blistering pace when Luis Iberico capitalized on a defensive lapse during a corner kick to head in the opening goal for Sporting Cristal just four minutes into the contest. Alianza Lima quickly answered back, with Jairo Vélez leveling the score in the 23rd minute and Eryc Castillo shocking the home crowd by netting a second goal in the 41st minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Just before the halftime whistle blew, veteran forward Hernán Barcos struck against his former club. Barcos delivered a precise header in stoppage time, equalizing the match at 2-2 as the teams headed into the locker rooms amid growing friction and numerous fouls.

The second half continued in a tightly contested, physical manner with opportunities at both ends of the pitch. When a draw seemed all but certain, a decisive play materialized in the final moments of regulation time. In the 90th minute, following a scramble inside the box and defensive missteps by Renzo Garcés, Santiago González pounced on a rebound to fire home the winning goal, sparking wild celebrations at a packed stadium.

Reflecting on the dramatic finish, González expressed his joy over the team's resilience and his milestone appearance. "It is a very emotional match, we were superior, they found two goals on counters. We deserved this triumph, we must continue this way to achieve great things," González stated, according to L1 Max. He also celebrated playing his 100th match for the institution, calling it the largest in Peru.

Alianza Lima faced significant criticism following tactical decisions made by their technical staff. The coaching decision to substitute goalscorers Jairo Vélez and Eryc Castillo at halftime drew sharp scrutiny, as the visiting side ultimately surrendered their lead and dropped to seventh place in the league table.

The drama extended beyond the final whistle. Following the conclusion of the match, forward Hernán Barcos and Alianza Lima manager Pablo Guede engaged in a heated verbal confrontation in the stadium tunnel while heading toward the locker rooms. Staff members had to intervene to prevent the argument from escalating further after a visibly frustrated coach approached the player.
