Twelve-Year-Old Boy Beaten in Rome Over Alleged Bicycle Theft
Carabinieri are investigating the street altercation in Rome's Magliana neighborhood that left a minor hospitalized and prompted conflicting accounts from witnesses and the victim's family.
A twelve-year-old boy was hospitalized following a violent street altercation in the Magliana neighborhood on the western outskirts of Rome. The incident took place on the evening of Tuesday, November 3, at the intersection of Via della Pescaglia and Via Pieve Fosciana.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after multiple residents placed emergency calls reporting screams and a fight in progress. First responders arrived to find the minor lying on the pavement with visible injuries and blood in his mouth. He was transported to the nearby San Camillo Hospital for medical evaluation.
According to a preliminary reconstruction by investigators and witnesses, the confrontation began after the twelve-year-old and a young companion allegedly stole a bicycle from a peer. The theft reportedly triggered a furious reaction from the owner's father, who physically confronted the minor and also attacked the boy's father when he arrived at the scene to intervene.
In contrast, the family of the injured boy has strongly rejected the accusation that he stole the bicycle. Instead, they described the incident as a racially motivated assault against the child while he was out on the street.
Police noted that the minor was subsequently discharged from San Camillo Hospital as his injuries were ultimately found not to be severe. Authorities from the Villa Bonelli station and the Radiomobile Unit are currently working to determine the precise sequence of events.
Investigators have emphasized that no formal criminal complaints or lawsuits have been filed by either family as of yet. However, given the nature of the altercation and the injuries sustained by the minor, law enforcement officials retain the option to proceed with charges against the responsible parties independently.
