The 19th-ranked Texas Longhorns snapped a two-game losing skid with a hard-fought 34-27 victory over No. 7 Ole Miss at Royal-Memorial Stadium. The win halted a brief rough patch for the program and kept its aspirations alive for a third College Football Playoff appearance in the last four years.

Texas leaned heavily on a punishing ground attack, paced by running back Raleek Brown. In his first season with the program, Brown became the first Longhorns running back this season to eclipse 100 yards in a single contest, rushing for 157 yards on the afternoon. Quarterback Arch Manning added three total touchdowns to help offset three turnovers during the conference matchup.

The Longhorns built a lead by executing on both sides of the ball while generating crucial defensive stops in front of a crowd of more than 104,000 spectators. Texas safety Jelani McDonald ultimately sealed the victory by intercepting Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss in the end zone on the final play of the game, stopping a furious late-game comeback by the Rebels.

Ole Miss mounted a serious challenge in the second half, capitalizing on miscues and capitalizing on a strip-sack touchdown from Kam Franklin following a fumble recovery. Chambliss threw two second-half touchdown passes to wide receiver Horatio Fields to narrow the deficit, but the Texas defense managed to hold firm under pressure.

Both teams dealt with significant injuries throughout the physical contest. Texas offensive lineman Trevor Goosby left the field on a medical cart in the first half with a leg injury, forcing adjustments along the offensive front as the team fought to protect its lead.

Following the Week 8 victory, the Longhorns improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play. Postseason projections have also begun to reflect the team's renewed momentum, placing Texas back into the national playoff mix as the back stretch of the college football season gets underway.
