LSU bounced back from a previous loss with a dominant 31-0 victory over Mississippi State on October 17 at Tiger Stadium. The win lifted the Tigers to a 5-2 overall record and a 2-2 standing in Southeastern Conference play, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt delivered an efficient performance for LSU, completing 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Jackson Harris hauled in two receiving touchdowns, while Eugene Wilson III and Malik Elzy each contributed one. On the ground and through the air, Dilin Jones added 84 rushing yards and caught eight passes for 58 yards.

The defensive effort was anchored by TJ Dottery, who recorded 12 tackles, alongside Davhon Keys, who added 10. LSU built a comfortable 21-0 lead by halftime and added another 10 points in the third quarter to seal the shutout.

Despite the decisive home win, Mississippi State was forced to play without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor and running back Fluff Bothwell. In the absence of Taylor, the Bulldogs struggled to generate any offensive momentum against the aggressive LSU defense.

Injuries have also impacted the Tigers as they navigate a demanding schedule. Quarterback Sam Leavitt has been managing a hamstring injury, while Jackson Harris and defensive standout Princewill Umanmielen sustained injuries during the matchup against Mississippi State, according to Tiger Rag.

LSU now shifts its focus to a difficult road stretch, starting with an away game against Auburn. The Tigers have dropped eight consecutive SEC road games dating back to October 2024, making this upcoming matchup a crucial test for their playoff aspirations.

Looking forward, LSU must navigate remaining games against tough opponents including Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Winning out would secure a 10-2 regular-season record and strengthen the program's resume, though a playoff selection remains uncertain.
