Téa Leoni and Tim Daly Star in NBC Comedy Newlyweds
Real-life partners Téa Leoni and Tim Daly return to television together in NBC's upcoming romantic comedy series Newlyweds.
Real-life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly are bringing their chemistry to the small screen once again in the upcoming NBC comedy series "Newlyweds." While the two actors are married in real life, the show is not directly based on their personal relationship.
The 13-episode first season follows fictional characters Jeanie and James, played by Leoni and Daly. The couple meets on a blind date and impulsively marries in Las Vegas after a whirlwind six-week courtship. The series premise was instead inspired in part by co-creator Jamie Lee Curtis and her whirlwind relationship with Christopher Guest.
Set in present-day Los Angeles, the narrative explores the humorous culture clash between the two main characters. Jeanie is a free-spirited middle school teacher whose adult children still live at home in a modest city bungalow, while James is a reserved college professor living in a museum-like suburban estate.
The ensemble cast features Jamie Lee Curtis as Claudia, James's meddling and biting ex-wife who frequently infiltrates his buttoned-up life. The supporting cast also includes Emma Meisel and Ignacio Diaz-Silverio as Jeanie's children, and Bill O'Neill as James's Norwegian-born teaching assistant, Arvid.
Although Leoni and Daly previously played husband and wife on the political drama "Madam Secretary" from 2014 until it ended in 2019, "Newlyweds" marks their first television series together since tying the knot on July 12, 2025. The real-life couple dated for about a decade before getting married.
Behind the scenes, the production has experienced some creative changes. Gail Lerner, who co-created the series with Curtis and served as showrunner for the first six episodes, was recently replaced by "The Conners" co-creator Bruce Helford due to creative differences.
"Newlyweds" is scheduled to premiere on Friday, October 23, at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC, broadcasting immediately after "Happy's Place." New episodes will be available to stream the following day on Peacock, with remaining episodes airing weekly on Friday nights.
