Steelers Defeat Browns 27-6 as Rico Dowdle and Ground Game Shine

The Pittsburgh Steelers cruised to a 27-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at home, solidifying their hold on first place in the AFC North standings. Entering the matchup as 3.5-point favorites, the Steelers capitalized on early offensive struggles and multiple turnovers from their division rivals.

The game began disastrously for the Browns, who lost fumbles on each of their first two offensive possessions. On Cleveland's opening drive, quarterback Deshaun Watson absorbed a helmet-to-helmet hit on a third-down passing attempt, resulting in a roughing the passer penalty and a temporary exit for a concussion check.

Shedeur Sanders stepped in to play the remainder of that possession, which concluded with a fumble by Harold Fannin on third down. Although Pittsburgh failed to capitalize immediately after kicker Chris Boswell missed a 57-yard field goal attempt wide left, the Steelers found their footing on the following opportunity.

Watson returned for Cleveland's ensuing drive, but disaster struck again when he was strip-sacked on second-and-7, allowing the Steelers to recover deep in Cleveland territory. Running back Rico Dowdle quickly took advantage of the turnover, carrying the ball for a 15-yard gain into the red zone.

Dowdle then powered through with consecutive 9-yard rushes, the second of which resulted in a touchdown and an early 7-0 lead for Pittsburgh. The score set the tone for a dominant first half performance by the home team.

By halftime, Pittsburgh had built a commanding 20-6 advantage. The lead was bolstered by another rushing score from Pat Freiermuth—who took a direct snap up the middle—alongside two field goals and a strong defensive effort that forced two first-half fumbles from the Browns.

The Steelers extended their cushion further in the second half when Jaylen Warren punched in another short rushing touchdown. Despite quarterback Aaron Rodgers throwing an interception to close out the third quarter, Pittsburgh maintained a comfortable 27-6 cushion.

The Cleveland offense remained stagnant in the fourth quarter, turning the ball on downs twice and punting once as the Steelers smoothly sealed the victory. With the win, Pittsburgh moves to a 6-2 record and heads into a bye week, while the Browns drop to 5-3 and prepare to hit the road next Sunday to face the New Orleans Saints.
