Shakira Achieves Historic YouTube Milestone and Receives Multiple Award Nominations
The Colombian artist has reached a rare record in music history while securing six nominations for the upcoming LOS40 Music Awards.
Shakira has solidified her status as a global music icon by achieving a significant milestone on YouTube, becoming one of the few artists in history to dominate four different decades with music videos that have surpassed 400 million views each. This accomplishment places the Colombian singer in the same category as the late Michael Jackson, who is widely recognized for his enduring influence on the music industry.
The achievement was bolstered by the sustained popularity of her 1998 track "Ciega, Sordomuda," which recently crossed the 400 million view threshold. This milestone adds the 1990s to her collection of decades represented by high-performing audiovisual content. Her catalog includes massive hits from the 2000s, such as "Hips Don't Lie" and "La Tortura," as well as 2010s successes like "Waka Waka" and "Chantaje," and recent 2020s releases such as "Te Felicito" and "Acróstico."
Beyond her digital records, Shakira continues to be a prominent figure in the awards circuit. She has received six nominations for the 2026 LOS40 Music Awards Santander, which are scheduled to take place on November 20 at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain. Her nominations span several categories, including Best Latin Artist or Group, Best Latin Song for her collaboration "Dai Dai" with Burna Boy, and Best Tour or Concert for her "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" world tour.
In addition to her musical accolades, Shakira is expanding her professional horizons into the film industry. It was recently announced that she will star in the feature film "The Ride," a project directed by Slava Denisov. The film is unique in its narrative approach, as it is told entirely from the perspective of a 1976 Plymouth automobile. The story follows the vehicle as it observes decades of human life, witnessing moments of freedom and redemption as it changes owners.
Production for "The Ride" is slated to begin in Los Angeles this fall. The film features a cast that includes Alex Roe and Jack Topalian alongside Shakira. The project is an expansion of a short film of the same name, which previously earned 18 awards during its festival run. Denisov expressed his excitement about the project, noting that the universal nature of the story—centered on the memories people tie to their vehicles—has helped the concept grow into a feature-length production.
Meanwhile, in Costa Rica, the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce has authorized the sale of tickets for a potential Shakira concert scheduled for January 31, 2027, at the National Stadium. While the authorization allows for the sale of over 53,000 tickets, official confirmation from a production company is still pending. This follows a previous authorization for a 2025 date that ultimately did not materialize, leaving fans eager for official updates regarding her touring schedule.
