Seahawks Defeat Chiefs 20-3 Behind Smith-Njigba and Wilson

Seattle's defense shut down Patrick Mahomes and former running back Kenneth Walker III to hand Kansas City its first loss of the season.

Led by standout performances from wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and running back Emanuel Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks secured a dominant 20-3 victory over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night at Lumen Field. The win brings the Seahawks to a 4-3 record on the season while halting the Chiefs' unbeaten run at 5-1.

Smith-Njigba anchored the Seattle offense by catching nine passes for 150 yards and scoring his league-leading eighth receiving touchdown of the season. Meanwhile, Emanuel Wilson contributed heavily on the ground, rushing for 100 yards and a late touchdown on 24 carries. Quarterback Sam Darnold added 257 passing yards and a score, helping the Seahawks control the tempo and convert 11 of 16 third-down attempts.

A major storyline heading into the matchup was the return of running back Kenneth Walker III to Seattle after winning the Super Bowl with the franchise last season and signing with Kansas City in free agency. However, the Seahawks' defense effectively neutralized him, holding Walker to just 36 yards on 14 carries and keeping him well below his league-leading average.

Seattle's defensive line put immense pressure on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes throughout the game. Mahomes finished the night completing 19 of 33 passes for 165 yards and throwing one interception, while also losing a fumble that led to Kansas City's only points of the game, a 50-yard field goal by Harrison Butker in the third quarter.

The Chiefs struggled across all phases of the game, managing only 213 total yards of offense. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid took full accountability for the performance after the game. "Listen, all three phases we struggled, so we've got to do better, and that's my responsibility," Reid said. "So I take full responsibility for this. We've got to play better as a team."

The victory provided a major morale boost for the Seahawks following a two-game skid. Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald expressed optimism about his team's potential moving forward. "I think this game reminds the guys what we're capable of," Macdonald said. "I think our guys understand that there's more levels to where we can go, and so I hope they feel the sense of urgency that we can get there because it is stuff that we can control."

Looking ahead, the Kansas City Chiefs will look to rebound next week against their division rivals, the Denver Broncos. Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks will attempt to build a winning streak when they face the Chicago Bears.
