Santa Clara Defeats Maritimo and Matches Sporting in the Standings

Santa Clara secured a 2-0 victory against Maritimo at the Estadio do Maritimo during the tenth round of the league, keeping the team tied with Sporting in the standings. Head coach Petit stated after the match that the triumph was fully deserved based on his squad's overall performance on the pitch.

"We really wanted to come here and take the three points, knowing that playing at Maritimo's stadium is always difficult," Petit told Sport TV. "I think we were a team with personality and quality that created and scored two goals. I think it is a fair result for what we did."

The manager acknowledged that the home side also created opportunities through set pieces, throw-ins, and corner kicks. However, he emphasized that his players maintained high quality, consistently tried to build out from the back, and generated multiple scoring chances that could have led to an even larger margin of victory.

With this triumph, Santa Clara climbed to fourth place in the league table with 21 points, matching the exact total of third-place Sporting. Petit noted that the squad remains focused on climbing higher in the standings.

The impressive away form has been a major driving force for the Azorean team this season. Out of five matches played away from home, Santa Clara has accumulated 13 out of a possible 15 points, marking their sixth victory overall in the competition.

This strong away record places the club just behind FC Porto, which leads the category with 15 points from five away games. Santa Clara currently outperforms several other top clubs away from home, standing ahead of Benfica, Academico de Viseu, and Sporting in the visiting statistics.

Having scored a total of seven goals across their five away fixtures and finding the back of the net in every single one of those trips, Petit's side continues to demonstrate strong competitive momentum as the season progresses.
