Roma Dominates Udinese with 5-2 Victory to Extend Unbeaten Run
Gian Piero Gasperini's squad secured a dominant away win at the Bluenergy Stadium, leaving Udinese manager Kosta Runjaic facing an uncertain future.
AS Roma secured a resounding 5-2 victory against Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium, extending their impressive unbeaten run and reaching a club record of 28 goals after ten games in Serie A. Gian Piero Gasperini's side completely controlled the first half, establishing a commanding four-goal lead before the break and maintaining their advantage through the second half.
The scoring began early when team captain Bryan Cristante headed in a precise cross from Wesley just ten minutes into the match. Cristante played a pivotal role again at the half-hour mark, setting up Rodrigo Mora for an easy finish from close range to double the lead. Just over a minute later, Donyell Malen added a third with a well-placed shot into the far corner following an assist from Matías Soulé.
Before the first half concluded, Evan Ndicka scored the fourth goal by heading home a corner kick delivered by Soulé in the 37th minute. Despite the heavy deficit, Udinese attempted a comeback in the second half when Nicolò Zaniolo capitalized on a rebound from goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini to score in the 50th minute. Defender M. Palma later narrowed the gap further with a volley in the 78th minute, bringing the score to 4-2.
Any hopes of a complete Udinese recovery were extinguished in stoppage time. Substitute __S. Castro__ provided an assist to Davide Ghilardi, who scored his first-ever Serie A goal with a powerful right-footed strike in the 92nd minute, sealing the 5-2 final score for the visiting team.
The dominant performance marked a historic milestone for the club, as Roma reached 28 goals in their first ten matches of the season, setting a new all-time record for the team at this stage of the competition. Gasperini's side demonstrated high-intensity pressing and fluid passing throughout the opening period, though they noticeably lowered their tempo in the second half with an upcoming Champions League fixture against Manchester United at Old Trafford approaching.
For Udinese, the heavy defeat compounds a dismal run of form, marking their fifth consecutive home loss and leaving them near the relegation zone with only five points from their opening nine matches. Following the match, Udinese manager Kosta Runjaic admitted to the media that his team's defensive display in the first half was unacceptable.
"Our first half was embarrassing defensively. We conceded goals far too easily. It was a bad night, and we achieved a poor result," Runjaic stated in his post-match press conference. When questioned about his future at the club, the manager added, "I well know that we can change the situation starting from the next match, but it is not up for me to decide," leaving his continuation at the discretion of the club's board.
