Rob Kazinsky has officially returned to EastEnders as Sean Slater, marking a major comeback to Albert Square 17 years after he was last a permanent resident of the neighborhood. The dramatic storyline centers around Sean stepping in to assist Jack Branning in the frantic search for his daughter, Amy Mitchell, who has vanished with disgraced detective Craig Ingram.

Longtime viewers of the long-running BBC soap opera will recall that Sean was previously married to Amy's late mother, Roxy Mitchell, and initially believed Amy was his biological child during her early months. Discussing the emotional weight of his return and his enduring connection to the character, Kazinsky noted that Sean never stopped viewing Amy as his daughter.

"Sean never stopped thinking of Amy as his child, he held her in his arms as his daughter and finding out she wasn't his was the hardest thing that ever happened to him," Kazinsky explained. "He will protect her and love her as only a father ever could. He swore to Roxy that he would do so and nothing stops him keeping promises to Roxy Mitchell."

The storyline also brings Sean back into close contact with Jack Branning, creating a tense dynamic between the two men. Kazinsky described their strained history as the most storied relationship for his character, moving from adversaries to a grudging acceptance bound together by their shared love for Amy.

Reflecting on stepping back into the role, Kazinsky expressed a deep attachment to Sean Slater, calling him the character he feels most protective of. He pointed to the human elements of Sean's personality, including his past tragedies and his capacity to conquer personal demons for the sake of those he loves, which made putting on the character's shoes and coat again feel entirely natural.

Looking ahead at the current iteration of the character, Kazinsky teased that a more mature version of the troubled resident will bring fresh dynamics to the screen. The actor noted that a 42-year-old Sean Slater offers a much more interesting perspective than the 21-year-old version fans remember from his original tenure.

EastEnders continues to air on Mondays through Thursdays on BBC One, with episodes also streaming early on BBC iPlayer. The dramatic search for Amy Mitchell and Sean Slater's reintegration into Walford are expected to drive central plotlines in the coming weeks.
