A regional express train traveling toward Westerland on the Marschbahn route collided with parts of a construction scaffold in Husum on Thursday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 10:50 PM near a railway bridge when the train struck metal components that were protruding into the active rail corridor.

Federal police reported that scaffolding was intended to be erected near the railway bridge. For reasons still under investigation, parts of the structure extended directly into the path of oncoming trains.

The train operator noticed the hazard and immediately initiated an emergency braking maneuver. Despite these efforts, the train could not avoid colliding with an iron bar belonging to the scaffolding.

The impact caused the metal bar to wedge itself into the train's bogie, damaging the air suspension system. Following the collision, the regional express was operated back to the Husum station, where all passengers were required to exit.

Aboard the train were 26 passengers. According to police authorities, none of the travelers sustained injuries despite the sudden emergency stop and subsequent collision.

The accident prompted a temporary closure of the Marschbahn railway route as emergency services and authorities responded to the scene. Railway accident investigators from the federal police have launched an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances and why the scaffolding components encroached upon the tracks.

The rail line remained closed for approximately one and a half hours while inspections and clearing operations took place. Normal operations on the route resumed at around 12:30 AM after the tracks were officially cleared and released for transit.
