The city of Neumünster recently experienced multiple notable incidents, ranging from hazardous material leaks and vehicle crashes to municipal infrastructure work and political event postponements.

In one traffic incident, a 16-year-old driver without a driver's license crashed a Mercedes SUV. According to local police, the vehicle veered off the road while turning, flipped over, and landed on its roof. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though authorities initiated criminal proceedings against the teenager for driving without a license and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

In a separate traffic accident on the B205 near the Neumünster South industrial area exit, a 25-year-old driver ran off the road, hit a traffic sign, and came to a stop on a green space. Law enforcement reported that the driver was unlicensed and suspected of being under the influence of drugs after a preliminary test reacted positively to THC, cocaine, and amphetamines. A blood sample was taken, and the vehicle required towing.

Emergency services also responded to a hazardous material leak at a facility on Isarstraße in Neumünster South. Battery acid leaked from six damaged units, filling the building with gaseous substances and causing respiratory irritation for several people. The fire department deployed specialized hazardous materials units to neutralize the spill using binding agents.

Emergency medical personnel evaluated a total of twelve individuals at the scene of the chemical leak. Six of those affected were transported to surrounding hospitals for further medical care, while the remaining six received outpatient treatment. The operation concluded after approximately two hours, and the site was returned to the facility operator.

In infrastructure news, drivers in Neumünster should prepare for upcoming lane reductions and traffic restrictions on the K12 and Rendsburger Straße. Scheduled district heating network upgrades and bus stop asphalt paving will prompt temporary work zones, lane closures, and pedestrian and bicycle path restrictions from late October through December.

Additionally, the regional branch of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party had to postpone its upcoming convention, which was planned to be held in Neumünster to establish its candidate list for state elections. According to the city administration and state party leader Kurt Kleinschmidt, the event had to be called off because the venue's security concept was rejected due to inadequate escape and rescue routes that could not be remedied on short notice.
