Police Search for Suspect Following Fatal Bar Altercation in Winter Haven
Authorities in Winter Haven are seeking a 40-year-old man facing manslaughter and felony battery charges after an altercation left another man dead.
Winter Haven police are actively searching for a suspect following a fatal altercation that occurred at a local bar earlier in October. Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Brian Motley, who faces charges of manslaughter and felony battery in connection with the incident.
According to the Winter Haven Police Department, the confrontation took place at Caribbean Bay, located at 1004 Lake Howard Drive, shortly before 2 a.m. on October 18. Police stated that Motley engaged in a verbal dispute with Adam Chism, a 40-year-old resident of Polk City, before punching him.
The physical blow rendered Chism unconscious and caused him to fall heavily to the ground. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, Chism never regained consciousness and ultimately passed away three days later on October 21.
Investigators noted that as Motley fled the scene following the initial altercation, he also struck another adult who managed to escape without sustaining any injuries. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with pertinent information regarding Motley's current whereabouts to come forward.
"Our prayers and sympathies are with Adam's family and friends as they try to navigate through this senseless tragedy," Winter Haven Police Chief Vance Monroe said. "We ask for the public's help in locating Brian Motley and quickly bringing him to justice."
