Patriots Quarterback Drake Maye Honored as AFC Offensive Player of the Month
New England's young signal-caller earns the monthly league recognition after leading his team to a strong 3-1 record in October.
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October following an exceptional stretch of games. The league announced the monthly honor roll, highlighting top performers across professional football after a competitive month of matchups.
Maye bounced back from a slow start to the season by orchestrating a dominant October for the Patriots, who finished the month with a 3-1 record. During this period, the young quarterback completed 67.2 percent of his passes, going 90 of 134 for 1,999 yards, averaging 299.8 yards per game, and throwing 12 touchdown passes against only two interceptions while adding two rushing scores.
This monthly accolade marks the first time a New England offensive player has captured the award since Tom Brady secured the honor back in November of 2017. Maye also achieved at least two touchdown passes in every game throughout October, showcasing remarkable consistency compared to his single touchdown pass during three September contests.
The signal-caller's impressive month began with a standout performance on October 4 against a division rival in Buffalo, where he completed 22 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns, while also leading the team with 54 rushing yards on eight attempts. That stellar outing earned him AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors and ignited the Patriots' three-game win streak.
Following the victory in Buffalo, Maye accounted for five total touchdowns in a 45-17 routing of the Raiders on October 11, passing for four scores and running for another. He kept the momentum going the subsequent week by tossing three more touchdowns in a 26-19 win over the Jets.
Concluding the busy stretch four nights later, Maye delivered another stellar prime-time performance during a Thursday night game in Chicago on October 22. He added three more touchdowns to his monthly tally, recording two through the air and one on the ground, which helped cement an NFL-best 119.0 quarterback rating for October.
