NFL Week 8 Action Highlights Sunday Matchups and Divisional Rivalries
The Philadelphia Eagles face the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football as teams battle through injuries and playoff positioning.
The National Football League enters Week 8 of the 2026 season with crucial divisional matchups taking center stage across the country. In Sunday's marquee primetime game, the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Landover, Maryland, to face the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium. The game is broadcast live on NBC, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. Eastern Time.
The Eagles enter the contest looking to halt a five-game losing streak and stay competitive within the NFC East race. Philadelphia is managing several significant roster absences, playing without quarterback Jalen Hurts due to blood clots, alongside retired right tackle Lane Johnson and traded center Cam Jurgens. Tanner McKee continues to command the offense as the starting quarterback for the third consecutive game.
Philadelphia's injury report also sidelined key wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks for the second straight week because of hamstring and ankle injuries, respectively. However, the team received a boost with the return of several defensive contributors, including edge rushers Nolan Smith, Jonathan Greenard, and Jalyx Hunt. Running back Saquon Barkley was also cleared to play despite dealing with hamstring and back issues, though he is expected to operate on a limited pitch count.
For Washington, star defensive tackle Daron Payne was ruled inactive due to a foot injury sustained in practice that is expected to sideline him for multiple weeks. The Commanders also listed cornerbacks Fabian Moreau and Isaac Yiadom, guard Tanoa Togiai, and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw among their inactives, with Athan Kaliakmanis serving as the emergency quarterback.
Earlier in the Sunday afternoon slate, the New England Patriots traveled to Miami to face the Dolphins in an important AFC East clash. New England leaned on young quarterback Drake Maye to navigate a tough road environment against a fast-paced Miami defense. Both squads entered the divisional showdown aiming to solidify their standing in the conference rankings before entering the second half of the regular season.
