Palantir Reports Strong Third-Quarter Earnings as US Commercial Revenue Surpasses Government Sales
The data analytics firm exceeded Wall Street estimates for the third quarter and issued optimistic revenue guidance for the final period of the year.
Palantir Technologies Inc. reported robust financial results for the third quarter, surpassing Wall Street expectations for both earnings and revenue while posting strong year-over-year growth. The data analytics firm announced adjusted earnings of $0.44 per share, beating the consensus estimate of $0.41 per share and comparing favorably to $0.21 per share from the same period last year. Quarterly revenue reached $2.31 billion, marking a 96% increase from a year earlier and topping analysts' projections of $2.18 billion.
A notable milestone in the latest financial report was the performance of Palantir's domestic market. For the first time ever, United States commercial revenue surpassed United States government revenue. U.S. commercial revenue surged 148% year-over-year to reach $984 million, outpacing U.S. government revenue, which grew 96% to $953 million during the quarter.
The company demonstrated strong momentum in securing major contracts throughout the period. According to company data, Palantir closed 212 deals worth at least $1 million, 107 deals valued at $5 million or more, and 64 transactions totaling at least $10 million. This high volume of major agreements contributed to an operating margin of 46.9%, up significantly from 33.3% in the third quarter of the previous year.
Palantir also demonstrated efficiency in customer acquisition, reporting a customer acquisition cost payback period of just four months for the quarter. Analysts noted that this rapid recovery period highlights the strength of the company's brand reputation and the distinct value of its software offerings in the market.
Looking ahead to the final quarter of the year, Palantir issued upbeat guidance that outpaced consensus forecasts. The company projects fourth-quarter revenue to hit a midpoint of $2.65 billion, exceeding the prior analyst consensus of $2.46 billion. Furthermore, management anticipates full-year 2026 revenue to reach approximately $8.53 billion.
Despite the positive earnings report and upbeat forward-looking guidance, the company's stock experienced mixed reactions immediately following the announcement. Shares traded relatively flat in extended trading sessions after recovering slightly from a 3.1% decline during the regular market day. Market analysts maintain a neutral outlook on the stock in the near term, reflecting a Zacks Rank of Hold as investors weigh the company's rapid growth against broader market conditions.
