Overwatch 2 Season 5 Midseason Update Brings Buffs, Nerfs, and Stellar Blade Crossover
The latest Overwatch 2 update introduces a major midseason balance patch, the Stellar Blade EVE Protocol collaboration, and Roadhog's first Mythic skin.
Blizzard Entertainment has launched the Season 5 midseason update for Overwatch 2, delivering a substantial collection of hero balance changes, new in-game events, and a crossover with the action game Stellar Blade. The patch brings the year-long Reign of Talon narrative to a climax with the Taking Reign event, setting up a final showdown in Rialto between Doomfist and Overwatch.
A major highlight of the update is the Overwatch x Stellar Blade collaboration titled EVE Protocol, which runs through November 17. The crossover event introduces five premium shop skins inspired by Shift Up's game: Widowmaker steps in as EVE, D.Va appears as Lily with a custom Ultra skin featuring a mech modeled after the final boss Providence, Freja takes on the role of Raven, Vendetta becomes Tachy, and Soldier: 76 acts as Adam.
Roadhog receives his first Mythic skin with the debut of the Necrotic Knight, marking a milestone following his character rework at the start of Season 5. The Mythic skin features four customizable levels allowing players to alter helmets, color palettes, and visual effects with ethereal skulls, spectral flames, and customized hooks.
The midseason patch also introduces extensive hero balancing adjustments. Tanks such as Junker Queen and Mauga receive health and damage buffs, while Ramattra gets increased ammo capacity. Conversely, adjustments target heroes like Jetpack Cat, D.Mon, and Doctrine. Damage heroes including Anran, Echo, Emre, and Reaper receive updates, along with support character tweaks for Ana, Baptiste, Brigitte, Illari, and Sombra.
In addition to balancing, the update kicks off several gameplay events. The Taking Reign story event runs from November 3 to December 7, featuring a 24-tier progression track split between free rewards and a paid event pass costing 1,000 Overwatch Coins. The Excavation Initiative and Junkrat's Loot Hunt events return alongside double XP periods, offering players additional opportunities to earn loot boxes.
Competitive and Quick Play systems also see updates through expanded drives running from December 3 to December 7. Players can earn up to 3,000 Competitive Points in competitive matches or up to 3,000 Legacy Weapon Points in Quick Play, while unlocking signature customization options upon reaching the fourth checkpoint.
Furthermore, Blizzard has updated its anti-sabotage detection tools to address disruptive player behaviors such as intentional inactivity, throwing, and map jumping, adding a notification message for players who successfully report disruptive conduct. A Black Friday Vault Sale running through December 7 also brings back curated skin bundles and fan-favorite cosmetics.
