Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders located seven individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining six individuals were immediately transported to nearby hospital facilities for urgent medical treatment. Medical personnel confirmed that at least three of the surviving victims were listed in critical condition following the incident.
Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall stated during a press briefing that the shooting appeared to be isolated to the interior of the Halloween costume store. Authorities have not yet publicly released the identities of the deceased or the injured individuals, pending family notifications and the progression of the ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement agencies from across the region mobilized to secure the area and manage the active crime scene. Additionally, the FBI Sacramento field office announced it was aware of the incident and deployed its Evidence Response Team to assist local detectives.
Shoppers inside the mall during the attack described scenes of sudden panic and confusion as the situation unfolded. Chief Marshall emphasized that detectives are working diligently to track down the suspect responsible for the attack.
Local leaders offered their condolences to those affected by the violence.
