Federal law enforcement authorities have taken a 42-year-old Michigan man into custody following allegations that he issued explicit death threats directed at Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel. Anthony Daniel Palazzolo, a resident of Chesterfield Township in Macomb County, was apprehended by federal agents on October 30.

The arrest stems from details outlined in a newly unsealed criminal complaint in a Detroit federal court. According to court documents, the investigation began after Palazzolo sent a threatening social media message to an associate in early October, during which he claimed to have put a hit out on that individual before turning his focus toward the FBI chief.

Court filings revealed that Palazzolo used explicit language to reference Patel and declared that he was a dead man. During subsequent questioning by law enforcement in October, Palazzolo admitted to sending the messages and apologized, claiming he had no intent to harm anyone, according to a statement from an FBI agent.

Investigators stated that his communications extended far beyond a single message. Palazzolo allegedly vowed to confront government agents on their own turf, threatening to visit an FBI office and use deadly force against every single government official present. Furthermore, court documents show he sent messages to the Secret Service, the Supreme Court, and a court in Texas containing additional graphic threats.

Palazzolo appeared in federal court in Detroit on October 30 to face a felony charge of transmitting threatening interstate communications, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. He was ordered to remain behind bars while awaiting a detention hearing, and his legal counsel declined to comment on the matter.

According to the FBI, Palazzolo has an extensive prior criminal record spanning multiple states, including Michigan, Texas, and Florida. His previous legal history includes a 2018 charge for falsely reporting a terrorist threat, alongside a separate charge for making a fake bomb threat.

This case unfolds against a backdrop of a broader national rise in federal criminal cases involving violent threats directed at politicians and public officials. Data compiled by academic institutions indicates that more than 850 threat-related cases have been prosecuted nationwide since 2013, with authorities tracking a significant surge in recent years.

The incident marks another security concern close to the FBI leadership. Earlier this year, federal agents arrested a Massachusetts man named Alden Welch Ruml after he allegedly sent violent and threatening emails targeting Patel's girlfriend.
