Al-Hilal secured a significant continental victory on Tuesday, defeating Shabab Al-Ahli 2-0 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. The match, part of the fourth round of the AFC Champions League Elite, saw the Saudi Arabian club regain momentum following their recent loss to Al-Shamal.

The breakthrough came early for the hosts, as English forward Ollie Watkins found the back of the net just six minutes into the game. Watkins capitalized on a precise pass from teammate Kalidou Koulibaly to give Al-Hilal an early lead, setting the tone for the remainder of the first half.

Despite the early advantage, Al-Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi faced tactical challenges during the first half, requiring two substitutions within the first 34 minutes. The first change occurred at the 28-minute mark, with Mohammed Mahzari replacing Sabri Dahl. Shortly thereafter, Nasser Al-Dawsari was brought on to replace Simon Bouabré after the French midfielder suffered an injury during a run through the center of the pitch.

Al-Hilal extended their lead immediately after the halftime break. In the first minute of the second half, Watkins scored his second goal of the match, successfully converting a cross from defender Yusuf Akçiçek to solidify his team's position. This performance continues a strong run of form for the 30-year-old striker, who has quickly adapted to the physical and technical demands of the Saudi Pro League since his move from Aston Villa.

Reflecting on his transition to Middle Eastern football, Watkins recently noted his surprise at the high level of competition in the region. "The Saudi league is tough, and I was surprised by the quality of the clubs and the fundamentals," Watkins stated. Having previously competed in the English Premier League, the forward emphasized that the intensity and physical requirements of the Saudi division are comparable to those he experienced in Europe.

The victory moves Al-Hilal to 9 points in the West group of the AFC Champions League Elite, placing them second in the standings, three points behind group leaders Al-Ain. For Shabab Al-Ahli, the result marked their first defeat of the current tournament, leaving them with 9 points and holding the fourth position in the group. Al-Hilal will look to maintain this momentum as they continue their domestic and continental campaigns.
