Al-Nassr head coach Ange Postecoglou has chosen to rest Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, along with forward Kingsley Coman and defender Mohamed Simakan, for Monday's AFC Champions League Elite match against Pakhtakor in Uzbekistan. The decision to leave the key players out of the travelling squad was made to manage player workload and travel demands during a congested fixture period.

Ronaldo recently delivered a stellar performance, netting a hat-trick in a Saudi Pro League victory that brought his career goal tally to 985. However, Postecoglou explained at a news conference in Tashkent that the heavy match pressure and extensive travel requirements necessitated leaving the veteran forward behind for the continental fixture.

Al-Nassr enters the match at Pakhtakor Markaziy Stadium sitting ninth in the western zone standings with three points from one win and one defeat, alongside a postponed game against the United Arab Emirates club Al-Wasl. Meanwhile, Pakhtakor holds 12th place in the standings with two points from three matches, having recorded two draws and one loss.

Despite a difficult start to the continental tournament that included a heavy defeat in their opening match, Al-Nassr has found domestic momentum with a five-game winning streak across all competitions. Postecoglou expressed confidence in his team's trajectory, stating that they have reached an excellent stage despite early preparation challenges.

For Monday's encounter, Al-Nassr's starting lineup features goalkeeper Bento Matheus, alongside defenders Awad Aman, Inigo Martinez, Abdulelah Al-Amri, and Nawaf Boushal. The midfield includes Ayman Yahya, Angelo Gabriel, and the returning Samu Costa, who missed a domestic fixture due to a suspension for accumulated bookings.

The attacking line for the visitors features Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Abdullah Al-Hamdan. On the opposing side, Pakhtakor aims to leverage its home advantage in Tashkent, though the Uzbek club has faced a challenging run of form with only one victory in its last five matches.

As Al-Nassr seeks a victory to climb back into the qualification race for the knockout stage, the squad rotation highlights the challenges clubs face in balancing heavy domestic commitments with demanding continental schedules.
