Nvidia Board Launches Investigation Into CEO Jensen Huang Over China Spy Allegations
The chipmaker's board has initiated an independent review following reports that CEO Jensen Huang was the target of a foreign intelligence effort.
Nvidia's board of directors announced an independent investigation into co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang following reports that he was targeted in a foreign intelligence operation linked to China. A committee of independent directors, supported by outside independent counsel, will oversee the inquiry to examine all available information regarding the espionage allegations.
The controversy came to light after recent reports indicated that Huang had a relationship with Alice Huang, a businesswoman and executive at cloud company and Nvidia customer Megaspeed whom U.S. intelligence agencies suspect of being a Chinese spy. In an email to Nvidia staff on Sunday, Jensen Huang acknowledged the affair and expressed deep regret over his actions.
"I was unfaithful to my wife. My actions hurt her and our children. There is no excuse for what I did," Huang wrote in his message to employees, adding that he is deeply sorry. Despite the personal fallout, an Nvidia spokesperson confirmed that Huang remains committed to continuing his role as CEO without interruption while the review is underway.
In its official statement, the Nvidia board noted that it prioritizes U.S. national and economic security as paramount to the interests of the company and its shareholders. While the board emphasized that it has no reason to believe national security or Nvidia secrets were compromised, the inquiry aims to thoroughly examine the situation. Huang has fully committed to cooperating with the independent review.
The investigation arrives at a critical juncture for Nvidia, a central player in the global artificial intelligence sector. Lawmakers in Washington have also taken swift interest in the matter. Three congressional committee chairmen—Representative Brian Mast of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative John Moolenaar of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, and Representative Rick Crawford of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence—recently sent a letter requesting a closed-door briefing with Huang by November 18, 2026.
In their letter, the lawmakers expressed significant national security concerns regarding potential access by the People's Republic of China to sensitive U.S. technology and information. The congressional inquiry operates independently from the internal board review, focusing specifically on Nvidia's security protocols against foreign adversaries and Huang's contacts with the Megaspeed executive.
As the independent committee proceeds with its investigation, investors and federal regulators are closely monitoring developments to determine whether any proprietary technology or strategic plans were affected. The board has indicated it will provide further updates as the inquiry progresses.
