U.S. Intelligence Ties Executive to Alleged Chinese Spy Operation
U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that a Chinese executive connected to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang gathered information for Beijing, though President Donald Trump took no action after being briefed.
U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that a Chinese business executive with access to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was operating as an intelligence asset for Beijing. American officials gathered electronic surveillance indicating that Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, was collecting information while building a close relationship with the head of the American artificial intelligence giant.
President Donald Trump was briefed on the classified intelligence findings roughly a year ago but chose not to act at the time. Furthermore, public reporting indicates that Jensen Huang has not received a formal defensive briefing from authorities to warn him about the potential security threat.
Alice Huang is a Chinese citizen who held a senior executive position at Megaspeed, a data center company based in Singapore. Megaspeed is a major buyer of advanced Nvidia artificial intelligence chips and rents computing power to various clients. American authorities began scrutinizing Megaspeed amid concerns that the firm might be helping Chinese businesses circumvent U.S. export controls and restrictions on advanced computing technology.
The broader investigation into Megaspeed intensified after a Commerce Department official visited a data center in Malaysia and discovered Nvidia equipment still packed inside boxes. Trade records reviewed by investigators showed that a Malaysian sister company of Megaspeed purchased billions of dollars in advanced AI equipment containing Nvidia technology over a multi-year period. Singaporean authorities questioned Alice Huang in 2025 before eventually releasing her.
While U.S. officials investigated whether Megaspeed operations allowed restricted computing hardware to reach China illegally, public records do not establish that Jensen Huang knew of any alleged intelligence activities or participated in wrongdoing. Investigations into Megaspeed were reportedly transferred to the Department of Justice earlier this year.
Nvidia has strongly defended its business dealings, asserting that interactions between its chief executive and Alice Huang were entirely routine. Company spokesman John Rizzo stated that meetings with customers are a normal part of a CEO's job and that regional cloud customers receive ordinary commercial information rather than sensitive trade secrets or national security data. Nvidia also previously investigated and dismissed allegations that Megaspeed was illegally smuggling chips.
Megaspeed announced that its current leadership takes the allegations extremely seriously and has retained outside counsel to conduct an internal investigation while cooperating fully with the U.S. government. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington rejected the accusations entirely, labeling them as groundless smears and slanders.
