Table-toppers NorthEast United FC will host Bengaluru FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday for an Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 fixture. Both teams enter the match looking to protect their unbeaten runs and cement their early-season momentum.

NorthEast United sits at the top of the points table with seven points from three matches, following victories against Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Kerala Blasters FC, alongside a recent goalless draw against Odisha FC. In that last outing, forward Alaaeddine Ajaraie missed a penalty by hitting the post deep into stoppage time, denying his side all three points.

Despite the missed opportunity, NorthEast United head coach Juan Pedro Benali expressed full confidence in his squad and backed Ajaraie to take the next penalty if called upon. "I prefer to win 4-3. I don't want 0-0. I want to win. If there is a penalty tomorrow, Alaaeddine Ajaraie will take it. There is no doubt about it," Benali stated.

Bengaluru FC arrives in Guwahati following a strong start, securing six points from two matches after defeating Sporting Club Delhi 3-2 and Chennaiyin FC 2-0. The visitors have scored five goals across their opening two games, showcasing a potent attacking threat under head coach Pep Muñoz.

Muñoz acknowledged NorthEast United's tactical flexibility and clear playing identity while remaining optimistic about his team's strategy. "They are a very good team with a clear identity, a defined style and quality players across the pitch. They can play in different ways and are full of confidence after winning their first two home games," Muñoz noted regarding their opponents.

NorthEast United goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh, who has kept two clean sheets and conceded only once this season, emphasized the importance of staying calm in possession to handle Bengaluru's aggressive pressing style. Meanwhile, Bengaluru midfielder Lalremtluanga Fanai highlighted that his team is maintaining concentration regardless of their early success.

Historically, Bengaluru holds the upper hand in head-to-head encounters, winning nine of their 19 previous meetings compared to NorthEast United's two victories, with eight matches ending in draws. Their most recent meeting in February 2026 concluded in a 1-1 stalemate.

Friday's match is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 PM IST and will be broadcast live on the Sony Sports Network, alongside live streaming on the official Indian Super League YouTube channel and Sony LIV.
