New Storm System Brings Rain and Strong Winds Across Parts of Italy
A weather disturbance originating from the western Mediterranean is set to bring rainfall and gusty winds to central and northern regions.
A new weather system is approaching the central Mediterranean, bringing forecasts of rainfall, shifting winds, and rough seas to parts of Italy starting Thursday, November 5. According to meteorologists, the disturbance is driven by a low-pressure area deepening between northern Spain and southern France, which will channel humid Atlantic currents toward the region.
Precipitation is expected to impact northwestern areas and the major islands, with Sardinia facing the heaviest downpours. Eastern and western sectors of Sardinia could see persistent showers and thunderstorms, accumulating between 40 and 60 millimeters of rainfall over a 24-hour period, with isolated peaks reaching up to 80 millimeters.
Southern and southwesterly winds are expected to intensify, with gusts estimated between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour in the Sardinia Channel and the central-southern Tyrrhenian Sea. Maritime conditions in these areas will range from very rough to high, with significant wave heights of two to three meters.
As the system progresses into Friday, November 6, widespread rainfall will continue across the Northwest, Tuscany, and central Tyrrhenian sectors. Areas between eastern Liguria and upper Tuscany are forecasted to record significant precipitation totals, while southern regions and the Adriatic slope will generally remain dry with occasional clear skies.
In a separate infrastructure development involving the Tyrrhenian area, regional authorities in Basilicata announced that operational meetings took place to address the rockfall on Provincial Road 3 between Maratea and Trecchina. Technical surveys and scaling operations are scheduled to remove unstable rock elements and restore safety along the route.
Meanwhile, regional discussions regarding Mediterranean logistics highlight the strategic importance of Tyrrhenian ports. During a recent conference on southern competitiveness, officials emphasized the need to enhance port infrastructure and better integrate commercial traffic with rail transport networks to support regional economic growth.
