Nebraska and Washington Meet as Big Ten Foes for the First Time

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Washington Huskies face each other as Big Ten conference opponents for the first time on a Halloween night game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. Both teams enter the Week 9 matchup carrying respective records of 5-2 and 4-3, looking to establish momentum after coming off their bye weeks.

Nebraska comes into the contest seeking to snap a two-game losing streak while aiming to secure bowl eligibility. The program holds a 17-2 all-time record on Halloween, although this marks their first game on the holiday since a 2015 loss at Purdue and their first Halloween home game since 1998.

The contest features Nebraska's second annual blackout game, showcasing special black alternate jerseys, black helmets with a script Huskers logo, and a painted midfield featuring the Blackshirts logo. The thematic design, titled "Our Red Burns Brighter," incorporates metallic red accents meant to mirror the glow of flames and fireworks alongside agricultural heritage patterns.

Preparations for the Huskers took a significant hit on the offensive line with the loss of Gunnar Gottula, who was ruled out due to a concussion sustained at the end of the Oregon game. Gottula had started seven games this season, providing vital flexibility and depth for an offensive unit that has previously struggled to create running lanes.

On the visiting side, Washington released a more optimistic injury update ahead of the game. Demond Williams Jr. and Jayden Limar were both upgraded from questionable to probable, while Vincent Shavers Jr. remains listed as questionable for the Huskies.

The game is broadcast nationally on BTN with Wayne Randazzo and Rhett Lewis calling the action from the booth and Caroline Hendershot reporting from the sidelines. Streaming access is available through services such as Fubo.

Early in the matchup, Nebraska took the initial lead in the first quarter when Anthony Colandrea connected with Carter Nelson for a 24-yard touchdown pass, putting the hosts ahead 7-0.
