Matteo Berrettini is an Italian professional tennis player known for his powerful serve and aggressive baseline game. Born in Rome on April 12, 1996, and turning professional in 2015, Berrettini has established himself as a prominent figure in men's professional tennis, achieving a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 6 on January 31, 2022.

Over the course of his career, Berrettini has claimed 10 ATP Tour singles titles, with a particularly strong record on grass courts where his game is exceptionally effective. His breakthrough season arrived in 2019 when he captured titles in Budapest and Stuttgart, reached the semifinals of the US Open, and became the first Italian player to win a match at the Nitto ATP Finals by defeating Dominic Thiem. That performance earned him the ATP Most Improved Player award.

The pinnacle of his major championship appearances came at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, where he reached the final before losing to Novak Djokovic in four sets. By reaching that match, Berrettini became the first Italian man in the Open Era to compete in a Grand Slam singles final. He has notably reached the quarterfinals or better across all four major Grand Slam tournaments, making him the first Italian male player to accomplish that feat.

Despite his successes on the court, injuries have frequently impacted Berrettini's momentum. Significant setbacks include right-hand surgery in March 2022, foot and abdominal injuries in 2023, and further abdominal issues between 2024 and 2025 that led to multiple tournament withdrawals. Nevertheless, he demonstrated remarkable resilience by securing three ATP titles in 2024, earning him the ATP Comeback Player of the Year award.

Continuing his journey through the 2026 season, Berrettini opened his campaign at the Vienna Open with a straight-sets victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the round of 32. Holding an accumulated record of 23 wins and 20 losses for the 2026 season, he continues to compete on the ATP Tour while maintaining a ranking inside the top 100.

Statistically, Berrettini remains a formidable server on tour. During the 2026 season, he has averaged 9.1 aces per match while holding 86 percent of his service games. Throughout his professional career, he has accumulated over $15.2 million in total prize money across more than 200 main-draw singles victories.
