A tragic mass shooting inside a packed Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California, left one woman dead and six other people injured on Friday night. Fairfield Police Department officers responded to the shopping center around 8:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire, which police believe was a targeted incident involving a single assailant.

Police Chief Dan Marshall confirmed that seven individuals were struck by gunfire during the attack. Constance Hages, 31, died at the scene from her injuries, with family members reporting she was pregnant at the time. Three victims were initially listed in critical condition, including a 16-year-old boy and two men aged 19 and 32. Two other men suffered gunshot wounds and were later released from the hospital.

Witnesses inside the crowded store described scenes of immediate panic as they heard what sounded initially like fireworks before recognizing gunfire. Shoppers ducked for cover near the back of the establishment, eventually breaking open a security gate to escape into the mall and flee through emergency exits. Law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol and Suisun City police, assisted in securing the area and aiding witnesses.

Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect, a possible motive, or information regarding whether an arrest has been made in the Fairfield case. Detectives continue to review video footage and gather evidence. Representative John Garamendi expressed shock and offered prayers for the victims and the Fairfield community in a statement following the violence.

In a separate incident on Friday afternoon, a 21-year-old man was killed during a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Madison Heights, Michigan. According to local police, that shooting followed a brief altercation between the suspect and the victim inside the store. Another 21-year-old man was taken into custody by authorities after being attacked by people at the scene.

Madison Heights Police Chief Brent LeMerise stated that the Michigan shooting hospitalized two men, with the victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds and the suspect receiving hospital treatment under guard following the subsequent physical altercation. Multiple police departments responded to the Madison Heights shopping center as the store remained closed for the rest of the weekend.
