Actress Kristen Bell recently revealed the unconventional way her husband, Dax Shepard, flirts with her while they are out in public. During an appearance on Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast alongside her Nobody Wants This costars, Bell explained that she knows her husband is expressing affection toward her when he compliments restaurant staff.

Bell told her co-hosts that when Shepard praises a waiter or waitress, saying things like they have incredible eyelashes or gorgeous eyes, she views it as a romantic gesture. She reasoned that because he is making someone else feel good with whom he will have zero interaction for the rest of his life, it translates to flirting with her.

The couple, who have been married for over a decade, have frequently shared humorous and candid glimpses into their relationship. For their 12th wedding anniversary, Bell posted a lighthearted tribute on Instagram recalling a time Shepard jokingly assured her that he would never kill her despite watching episodes of Dateline.

In addition to their modern dynamic, the couple previously detailed why Shepard initially refused to get married. Shepard explained that he held an anti-establishment view on marriage and disliked the idea of involving the state of California in their personal relationship, especially given that both he and Bell came from broken homes.

However, their perspectives changed during a Christmas Eve spent with Shepard's family. While lying in bed and discussing their gratitude for the small family they were building, Shepard decided to spontaneously retrieve a ring from his jacket closet and propose.

Bell recalled being completely overwhelmed and sobbing before he could even finish asking the question, leading to their marriage at the Beverly Hills County Clerk’s Office in October 2013 after welcoming their daughter, Lincoln, earlier that year.

The podcast episode also featured actor Adam Brody, who reflected on his own marriage proposal to Leighton Meester. Brody admitted to his podcast co-hosts that he regrets keeping his proposal so simple and pedestrian, advising listeners to put effort into the moment because the engagement story is one that gets retold for the rest of one's life.
