Kansas and TCU Meet in Big 12 Matchup as Both Teams Seek Momentum
The Kansas Jayhawks face the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, Texas, with both programs looking to climb back above .500.
The Kansas Jayhawks and the TCU Horned Frogs are set to square off in a crucial Big 12 Conference matchup at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. Both teams enter the contest with identical records of 3-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play, carrying a sense of urgency as they attempt to secure three more victories and achieve bowl eligibility during the second half of the season.
Kansas travels south following a dramatic 25-24 victory over Baylor. In that game, quarterback Isaiah Marshall rushed for a 15-yard touchdown with just over a minute remaining to give the Jayhawks the lead. The win was sealed when teammate Blake Herold blocked a 45-yard field-goal attempt by Baylor with only 18 seconds left on the clock, snapping a two-game losing skid for Kansas.
Ahead of Saturday's kickoff, Marshall's status has been listed as a game-time decision after being downgraded to questionable. If he is unable to take the field, redshirt junior Cole Ballard is expected to start at quarterback for the Jayhawks. Ballard has appeared in three games this season, completing five of eight passes for 96 yards and rushing once for 14 yards.
Kansas relies heavily on its ground game, averaging 207.3 rushing yards per contest. Running back Dylan Edwards leads the offense with 105 carries, highlighted by a standout performance against Baylor where he rushed 30 times for 156 yards. Head coach Lance Leipold and his squad will look to establish that same physical run game on the road, where the Jayhawks are currently 0-2 this season.
On the other sideline, TCU is looking to bounce back from a tight 24-20 home loss to West Virginia. All four of the Horned Frogs' defeats this season have been decided by eight points or fewer, showcasing a recurring difficulty in closing out close contests. Following their latest narrow loss, TCU made a coaching adjustment by dismissing co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach A.J. Ricker.
Despite their struggles to finish games, TCU's offense generates significant yardage through the air behind quarterback Jaden Craig, who threw for 372 yards in the loss to West Virginia. The Horned Frogs also feature reliable targets in Ed Small and Kari Ashley, who lead the team in receiving yards. Defensively, TCU permits only 13.9 points per game and boasts a formidable front seven anchored by linebacker Hudson Hooper and pass rusher Koron Hayward.
As November approaches, both coaching staffs recognize the fine margin between victory and defeat in the competitive Big 12. With five games remaining on the schedule, a win in Fort Worth would provide crucial momentum for either Kansas or TCU as they fight to keep their postseason aspirations alive.
