The Bears head to Orlando to take on Central Florida under interim head coach Joe Klanderman following Dave Aranda's dismissal.

Baylor football hits the road to face Central Florida on Friday night at the Acrisure Bounce House in Orlando, Florida. Both teams enter the matchup with matching 4-3 overall records and 2-2 marks in Big 12 Conference play. The contest marks the annual Space Game for Central Florida, creating a high-energy atmosphere as the Knights return home following a historic double-overtime victory over then-No. 2 BYU.

The Bears are navigating a period of turbulence after firing head coach Dave Aranda on October 25, just a day after a 25-24 loss to Kansas that ended on a blocked field goal in the final minute. Defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman has stepped in as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Klanderman takes over a squad dealing with back-to-back losses, though the team's three defeats this season have come by a combined total of only 13 points.

On the field, Baylor has experienced a stark contrast between its units. The defense remains strong, allowing 16.1 points per game and boasting a run defense ranked 22nd nationally. However, the offense has struggled to find consistency behind Florida transfer quarterback DJ Lagway, whose 52.1% completion rate highlights an erratic passing attack. Wide receiver Gavin Freeman has emerged as the primary reliable target, leading the offense with 58 receptions for 678 yards through seven games.

Central Florida enters the matchup with significant momentum after defeating BYU 39-31 behind quarterback Keyone Jenkins. Head coach Scott Frost confirmed that Jenkins will retain the starting job after accounting for nearly 328 total yards and four touchdowns without a turnover last week. The Knights' offense will lean heavily on running back Duke Watson, who averages 6.79 yards per carry, setting up a physical clash against Baylor's stout rush defense.

Off the field, Baylor program developments have extended beyond the gridiron. The university recently filed a lawsuit against former offensive lineman Sean Thompkins, alleging he breached a Name, Image, and Likeness buyout agreement. According to the legal filing, Thompkins owes the university $85,000 following an unfulfilled mediated settlement agreement from May after transferring to LSU for the current offseason.

Meanwhile, high school prospects tied to the Baylor name are also making headlines. The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, led by five-star running back and Tennessee commit David Gabriel Georges, captured a 28-18 victory over Knoxville Catholic in a high-profile TSSAA matchup. Georges entered the contest having rushed for over 1,000 yards on the season for the undefeated Red Raiders.

As kickoff approaches in Orlando, betting markets have shifted slightly in favor of the visiting Bears, despite the recent coaching change and offensive struggles. Friday night's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, offering both programs a prominent stage to establish control in the second half of the Big 12 schedule.
