Jobe Bellingham Receives First Senior England Call-Up
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder joins his older brother Jude in Thomas Tuchel's squad for upcoming Nations League matches.
Jobe Bellingham has earned his first senior call-up to the England national team, joining his older brother Jude in the squad announced by manager Thomas Tuchel on Friday. The 21-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder was rewarded following a strong start to his season in Germany, which included strong performances as captain of England's under-21s.
England is preparing for upcoming UEFA Nations League group matches against Croatia and Spain. The Three Lions sit second in group A3 after four matches, having recorded three wins and a single loss. Thomas Tuchel's side requires just one point from their final two games to secure a place in the knockout rounds scheduled for March.
Speaking about the selection, Tuchel highlighted the midfielder's consistent development and praise from under-21 coach Lee Carsley. "Lee Carsley is talking highly about Jobe since weeks and months that he deserves, if there is a spot and if there is a possibility to join and to make an impression in the first team," Tuchel stated in a video published on England's social media channels. "He has had good matches now and he's on a good run of form with Dortmund so he deserves to be with us."
At club level, Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovač recently expressed immense satisfaction with the young player's progress. Speaking ahead of a domestic fixture, Kovač praised Bellingham's work ethic and discipline, noting that he is frequently among the first players to arrive at the training ground and the last to leave. Kovač also highlighted the midfielder's tactical versatility, describing him as a box-to-box player capable of performing effectively in both defensive and offensive roles.
Jobe Bellingham's strong club form has translated into increased attacking contributions, including creating scoring chances and providing assists in matches against high-level opponents. Kovač emphasized that the player's potential remains far from fully realized, pointing to his maturity and physical attributes at the age of 21.
Alongside Jobe Bellingham, Fulham teenager Josh King also received his maiden senior call-up for the fixtures against Croatia and Spain. Meanwhile, notable omissions from Tuchel's selection included Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo, as the manager opted to maintain continuity with players who participated in previous camps while integrating younger emerging talent.
