The Rajinikanth-starrer action drama "Jailer 2" has officially become the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, reaching a worldwide gross of Rs 710.35 crore. The milestone was achieved after surpassing the global collection of Rs 691 crore previously held by the Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar film "2.0".

Bankrolled by Sun Pictures and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie hit the big screen on October 15. Alongside Rajinikanth, the star-studded cast features Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Yogi Babu, and several other prominent actors. Trade tracker Sacnilk reported that the domestic gross collection reached Rs 466.85 crore in India, while the net collection stood at Rs 398.70 crore after 11 days.

The film also set records during its opening weekend, emerging as the fastest Tamil film to cross both the Rs 300 crore and Rs 400 crore worldwide marks. Director Nelson Dilipkumar expressed his gratitude on social media, writing, "Theatres are going bonkers! Thalaivar magic hits different. Thank you, dear audience, for the phenomenal love and reception for #Jailer2." Trade analyst Himesh Mankad praised the actor's longevity, calling him the biggest superstar in India and a dominant force in world cinema.

Internationally, "Jailer 2" achieved another significant milestone by becoming the first Tamil film to cross the $25 million mark overseas. It also surpassed its North American breakeven target of $6.5 million by collecting $6.85 million in 10 days, generating an overflow of $350,000 for distributors. In Kerala, trade estimates shared by AB George indicated the film grossed around Rs 70.70 crore in 11 days, positioning it to rank among the state's top-grossing films.

Veteran theatre owner and distributor Tiruppur Subramaniam described the project as the biggest film in Tamil cinema's 120-year history, expressing hope that it will eventually cross Rs 1,000 crore worldwide. He noted that despite a non-holiday release and modest early advance bookings, the film experienced a dramatic turnaround driven by positive word of mouth and packed noon shows.

Subramaniam also revealed that he personally requested Sun Pictures to consider postponing the film's digital streaming release to protect its strong theatrical performance. With no major competing releases scheduled until November 6, industry analysts expect the movie to maintain a favorable theatrical run for at least another two weeks.
