Jaguars Crush Colts 42-7 as Indianapolis Weighs Quarterback Change

The Jacksonville Jaguars secured a dominant victory over the Indianapolis Colts, prompting head coach Shane Steichen to evaluate his starting quarterback.

The Jacksonville Jaguars cruised to a decisive 42-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, capitalizing on their opponent's struggles and roster teardown during Week 8 of the NFL season. Trevor Lawrence delivered an efficient performance for the Jaguars, completing 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns while Jacksonville averaged an impressive 5.5 yards per carry to improve their record to 5-2.

The blowout loss compounded a difficult week for Indianapolis, which recently traded away eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. The Colts fell behind early, allowing 21 points in the second quarter and facing a 35-0 deficit before finally getting on the scoreboard.

The mounting struggles prompted a shift in stance from Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen regarding starting quarterback Daniel Jones. Steichen told reporters after the game that the team is evaluating everything, including whether Jones will remain under center moving forward.

Jones struggled significantly during the matchup, completing his day by throwing his second interception of the fourth quarter. That turnover prompted the Colts to pull him in favor of backup quarterback Anthony Richardson. Jones has completed 162 of 268 passes for 1,542 yards, five touchdowns, and nine interceptions this season after signing a two-year, $88 million contract extension in the offseason.

The decision to bench Jones marks a potential turning point for a franchise that invested heavily in the veteran signal-caller. With the Colts mired in a four-and-game losing streak and their season appearing effectively out of reach, the coaching staff may turn to Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, to finish out the year.

Meanwhile, the victorious Jaguars now look ahead to a short week as they prepare to face the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. Baltimore enters that matchup dealing with significant injury concerns of their own, having lost quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley during their game against the Buffalo Bills.
