ITV Daytime Programs Pulled Off-Air Following Studio Power Outage
Technical issues at the Covent Garden studio forced the cancellation of live broadcasts for This Morning, Lorraine, and Loose Women.
ITV's daytime television schedule experienced significant disruptions on Wednesday, November 4, after a power outage at the broadcaster's Covent Garden studio facility in London. The technical failure prevented the live production of several flagship programs, including the morning chat show Lorraine, the long-running magazine program This Morning, and the panel show Loose Women.
The disruption became apparent early in the morning when presenter Lorraine Kelly informed viewers via social media that her program would not air as scheduled. In a video message, Kelly explained that she was en route to the studio when she learned of the power failure, noting that the situation was unexpected. She expressed disappointment at missing the chance to interview her scheduled guest, Sharleen Spiteri of the band Texas, and assured fans that the show would return the following day.
Following the initial outage, ITV confirmed that the technical issues had impacted multiple productions sharing the same studio space. While early morning news program Good Morning Britain was able to continue broadcasting from a different location in Central London, the network was unable to restore power to the Covent Garden site in time for the rest of the morning lineup.
As a result of the outage, ITV replaced the scheduled live episodes with alternative programming. This Morning was substituted with a compilation of highlights from previous episodes, while Loose Women was replaced by a broadcast of the game show Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals. The network issued a formal statement confirming that it was unable to broadcast the shows live and intended to resume its normal schedule as soon as possible.
Viewers expressed confusion on social media regarding the sudden change in programming, with many questioning why the live shows were absent from the airwaves. The network’s decision to air pre-recorded content served as a temporary measure while technicians worked to resolve the power supply issues at the facility.
The incident highlights the logistical challenges faced by major broadcasters when central production hubs encounter infrastructure failures. ITV confirmed that normal operations were expected to resume in the afternoon following the scheduled airing of the ITV Lunchtime News at 1:00 p.m.
