Iowa State held a narrow 24-21 lead over Associated Press No. 24 Oklahoma State at halftime during their Saturday night college football matchup at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. The game, which kicked off slightly after 6:10 p.m. on October 31, featured a high-scoring and competitive first half as the Cyclones sought an upset against their ranked conference opponents.

The opening quarter saw rapid scoring changes. Iowa State drew first blood when Aiden Flora capped off an opening drive with a 29-year rushing touchdown, which was set up by a 27-yard pass completion from quarterback Jaylen Raynor to Cody Jackson. Oklahoma State quickly answered back on a 12-play, 75-yard drive ending in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Drew Mestemaker to Wyatt Young, knotting the score at 7-7.

The Cowboys took their first lead of the contest later in the first quarter when Mestemaker connected with Caleb Hawkins on a 60-yard touchdown play. However, the Cyclones responded in the second quarter. After an interception by Iowa State's Jaylen Raynor was briefly stalled by the defense, the hosts eventually tied the game 14-14 on a two-yard touchdown pass from Raynor to Easton Miller.

Special teams played a pivotal role in shifting momentum before halftime. Kyle Konrardy successfully recovered his own onside kick for Iowa State, allowing the offense to march into the end zone in just three plays. That drive culminated in a 43-yard touchdown pass from Raynor to Jamal Polite, pushing the Cyclones ahead 21-14.

Oklahoma State refused to back down before the break. Drew Mestemaker engineered another scoring drive, finding Justin Bowick for an 11-yard touchdown pass. Despite a false start penalty on the extra point attempt, Sam Keltner's kick tied the game once again at 21-21 with less than seven minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The deadlock persisted until the closing seconds of the half. Following a fumbled punt return by Oklahoma State that was recovered by long snapper Caleb Schmidt on the Cowboys' 36-yard line, Iowa State capitalized on field position. Although the drive stalled, Kyle Konrardy drilled a 33-yard field goal with just seven seconds left on the clock to give the Cyclones their 24-21 halftime advantage.

The Cowboys opted to take a knee as the remaining seconds expired, heading into the locker room facing a deficit. Oklahoma State is scheduled to receive the opening kickoff to start the second half as they look to mount a comeback on the road.
