India Women Defeat Zimbabwe to Secure ODI Series Victory
The Women in Blue secured an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series following a dominant 121-run victory in Vadodara.
The India Women's national cricket team clinched the three-match One Day International series against Zimbabwe with a commanding 121-run victory in the second match at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara. Having also swept the preceding T20I leg 3-0, the hosts extended their exceptional run of form to secure an unassailable 2-0 lead in the current ODI series.
Indian captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and elected to bat first under favorable batting conditions at the BCA Stadium. The hosts made a single change to their starting lineup, resting Kranti Gaud to bring in Vaishnavi Sharma. Despite early setbacks that saw Mandhana dismissed for a duck and Shafali Verma fall for eight runs, the Indian innings recovered spectacularly.
Veteran batter Harmanpreet Kaur and Pratika Rawal steadied the ship with a vital partnership. Rawal contributed a solid 61 runs off 67 deliveries, featuring four boundaries and two sixes. Meanwhile, Kaur anchored the innings with a brilliant century, scoring 126 runs from 121 balls, which included 15 boundaries.
Deepti Sharma further accelerated the scoring with an explosive, unbeaten century. She smashed 106 runs off just 86 balls, hitting 15 fours to propel India to a formidable total of 328 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs. Nomvelo Sibanda was the pick of the Zimbabwe bowlers, claiming two wickets, while teammates Makusha, Michelle Mavunga, Nyasha, and Olinder each picked up a single wicket.
Facing a challenging target of 329, Zimbabwe struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Opener Loryn Phiri was dismissed early for six runs, caught by Shafali Verma off the bowling of Shree Charani. However, Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano attempted a recovery, scoring 49 and 46 runs respectively.
The 107-run partnership was eventually broken when Sayali Satghare bowled Tiripano. Contributions from Beloved Biza (34), captain Josephine Nkomo (20), Nyasha Gwanzura (20), and Chiedza Dhururu (12) were not enough to steer the visitors toward the target as regular wickets fell during the middle and death overs.
Zimbabwe was ultimately bowled out for 207 runs in 48.5 overs. Vaishnavi Sharma led the bowling charge for India with an impressive four-wicket haul, while Deepti Sharma chipped in with three wickets. Sayali Satghare, Shree Charani, and Jintimani Kalita each secured one dismissal to seal the comprehensive victory.
The commanding performance highlights India's dominance across formats during the ongoing bilateral series. With the series already decided, both teams will look toward the final fixture to test their squad depth and conclude the tour.
