India claimed an unassailable 3-0 advantage in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand on Tuesday, October 27, following a dominant six-wicket victory at Henry Stadium in Wellington. Chasing a challenging target of 199, the visitors reached 199 in just 13.2 overs, fueled by an explosive performance from opening batsman Abhishek Sharma.

New Zealand had earlier posted a competitive total of 198 for 3, anchored by an unbeaten 89 off 52 deliveries from Daryl Mitchell. Facing an imposing target, India needed a strong start, but the opening pair delivered far beyond expectations by dismantling the home side's bowling attack from the very first over.

Abhishek led the charge with a stunning knock of 113 runs from just 38 balls, featuring nine fours and 11 sixes. His aggressive approach targeted New Zealand's bowlers early, including off-spinner Michael Bracewell, against whom the left-hander collected 15 runs in four deliveries during the powerplay. Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik praised the batter's proactive intent, stating that occasional dismissals to off-spin should not overshadow such dominant displays.

"He got 15 runs in 4 balls against Michael Bracewell in his first over. For a guy who is supposedly weak against off-spin. You take that any day, and you shouldn't even be discussing it as a problem. It is just a matter of fact that he gets out to off-spin sometimes," Karthik noted.

Abhishek reached his century off 35 deliveries, tying the record for the second-fastest T20I hundred by an Indian alongside Rohit Sharma and South Africa's David Miller. His innings also set a new benchmark for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in a successful T20I run chase. Supported by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the opening partnership yielded 118 runs in the first six overs, setting a new world record for the highest powerplay total in men's T20 Internationals.

The match also featured an injury scare for India when middle-order batsman Tilak Varma left the field during the third over after slipping while attempting to field a ball. Varma, who scored an unbeaten 51 in the second match of the series, appeared to experience discomfort in his knee and was replaced by a substitute. The Indian camp awaits further updates regarding his condition as the series progresses.
