HMD Global Announces Nokia 2360 Flip Phone with Dual Displays and SOS Button
The new feature phone targets older adults and school children with remote management tools and safety features.
HMD Global has officially unveiled the Nokia 2360 Flip phone, blending a nostalgic 90s and early 2000s clamshell design with modern accessibility and safety features. Designed primarily for young school children and senior citizens, the device offers a straightforward mobile experience without the complexities of a modern smartphone.
The new feature phone comes equipped with a dual-display setup, featuring a 2.8-inch main inner display alongside a 1.77-inch external screen for quickly checking the time and incoming calls. The physical build incorporates large menu icons, a loud speaker, and hearing aid compatibility to assist users with accessibility needs.
A major highlight of the device is the inclusion of the Family Assist feature. This system allows relatives to manage the phone remotely from their own smartphones, enabling them to add contacts, adjust volume levels, and set reminders without needing physical access to the handset.
For emergencies, the Nokia 2360 Flip includes a dedicated SOS button located on the rear panel. Pressing this button automatically places a call to a pre-set emergency contact while dispatching alert messages to a list of up to five designated people.
Parents also gain specific controls for children through a PIN-protected family mode. This includes a School Mode that restricts device functions to showing the time and making emergency calls, as well as options to limit incoming calls and messages to approved contacts.
In terms of hardware specifications, the device includes a removable 1,450mAh battery capable of delivering up to 27.5 hours of continuous talk time and about two weeks of standby endurance. It also features a QVGA camera, a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, an FM radio, a speaker, and expandable storage up to 32GB via a microSD card slot, using a USB Type-C port for charging.
Connectivity is limited strictly to second-generation 2G networks, with no support for 3G or 4G LTE. Because many telecommunications operators worldwide have already decommissioned or are in the process of shutting down 2G networks, availability and usability will depend heavily on local carrier support.
HMD Global will offer the device in three color options: Charcoal, Teal, and Burgundy Red. At the time of the announcement, the manufacturer has not yet disclosed official pricing or specific market release dates.
