A 69-year-old man died and a 62-year-old woman sustained very serious injuries following a head-on collision between two passenger vehicles on Monday, November 2, in Saint-Capraise-de-Lalinde, located in the Dordogne department.

The accident occurred on the Sarlat road just outside the municipality, shortly after 9:00 a.m., along Department Road 660. Initial findings indicate that the male driver who passed away was attempting to overtake another vehicle when he crashed head-on into an oncoming car.

The impact of the crash was severe enough to hurl the man's vehicle directly into a nearby canal. Emergency responders, including firefighters, attempted to revive the driver at the scene, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The female driver of the oncoming vehicle suffered severe injuries. Emergency medical personnel transported her by helicopter to a hospital in Bordeaux for urgent medical care.

Due to the severity of the crash and the subsequent emergency response, traffic along Department Road 660 was completely halted throughout the morning. Authorities established a detour through Mouleydier to manage the flow of vehicles.

Approximately fifteen firefighters alongside numerous emergency vehicles were deployed to the scene to secure the area, manage rescue operations, and assist with the investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
