A tragic single-vehicle accident occurred in the Puy-de-Dôme department, leaving a motorist dead and causing significant delays to regional railway traffic on Friday morning. The incident came to light after the driver of a train spotted the wrecked automobile situated near the tracks.

According to initial reports from local authorities, the fatal crash likely took place on Thursday evening. The victim, whose age was reported as 38 in some initial accounts and 37 in others, apparently lost control of his car while driving on the D434 roadway between Randan and Saint-Yorre.

The vehicle veered off the road and plummeted down an embankment nearly six meters deep, coming to rest at the base of the railway line in Saint-Sylvestre-Pragoulin. The exact timing of the crash remains under investigation by local gendarmerie forces.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene after being alerted early Friday morning. A train operator running an Intercités service between Paris and Clermont-Ferrand first noticed the overturned car lying at the foot of the slope near the tracks and reported it.

Rescue personnel discovered the motorist lifeless inside the automobile. Officials stated that no other vehicles appeared to be involved in the incident, pointing to a loss of vehicle control as the primary cause of the tragedy.

The discovery and subsequent emergency response directly impacted rail transportation throughout the area. Although the car did not land on the tracks, railway authorities enforced mandatory speed restrictions and temporary halts to ensure safety while emergency teams worked near the rail line.

Commuters traveling across the Puy-de-Dôme and Allier sectors experienced substantial delays during the morning commute, with some services running significantly behind schedule. Normal train circulation resumed by mid-morning following the successful removal of the wrecked vehicle from the embankment.
